The Basics of ‘Dreams’

In the Bible, dreaming dreams is referred to 115 times in the English translation. Some suggest that since we have the Bible, there is no longer any need for God to speak through a dream. However, the Bible itself is clear that as God pours out His Spirit in the last days, the visitations from Heaven will be accompanied by both visions and dreams. Since dreams and visions are going to be manifested through believers as the Holy Spirit begins flowing through out the earth in the last days, then we need to be made aware of these two methods of communication.

ACTS 2:17-18

‘This is what I will do in the last days—I will pour outmy Spirit on everybody and cause your sons and daughters to prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will experience dreams from God. The Holy Spirit will come upon all my servants, men and women alike, and they will prophesy.

OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

We are standing in the last days, which are marked by an outpouring of God’s Spirit.  The outpouring of the Spirit includes prophecy through dreams and visions. We can miss the outpouring the Holy Spirit if we don’t have our ears tuned to hear. We will miss the voice of God for this generation if we, like Nicodemus, are only prepared to think naturally and miss the need to listen spiritually (John 3:4).

JOHN 3:4

Nicodemus said, “Rebirth? How can a gray-headed man be reborn? It’s impossible for a man to go back into the womb a second time and be reborn!”

Like I have taught many times, we’re over here in this point in time on the FM station and God is speaking on the AM station, we must tune our ears in to the right frequency. The call to live by faith is a call to hear what God is saying today.

LOGOS / RHEMA

  • Logos, refers principally to the total inspired Word of God and to Jesus, who is the living Word.
  • Rhema, which refers to the spoken word. Rhema literally means an utterance.

Dreams are rhema words from God to build and strengthen.

PARABLES

Jesus’ preferred teaching method through the Bible was to use parables. Whenever Jesus spoke about the Kingdom, it was in parables. Through dreams, the Holy Spirit teaches the principal of referencing (linking truth with truth) seeking out truth, connecting the dots.

1 COR. 2:13

13 We also speak of these things, not in words taught or supplied by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual thoughts with spiritual words [for those being guided by the Holy Spirit].

Parables keep us in communication with the father. If we knew everything there would be no need to communicate with him at all and what kind of relationship is that.

WHAT ARE DREAMS FOR?

Dreams relate what is happening in the spirit realm to the natural person.  Dreams can build faith (Judges 6-8.) God progressively built faith in Gideon by a series of events and the final tool used was a dream. Dreams can be for revealing secrets, answering questions, warnings, guidance, correction, disclosure (future), prophetic words. Dreams have the power to divide between soul and spirit and act as a discloser of the thoughts and intents of the heart

HEBREWS 4:12

12 For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged [a]sword, penetrating as far as the division of the [b]soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.

The Bible reveals that dreams have the power to divide between soul and spirit because they are a deposit of Gods living word to us today. You can be strengthened in faith by hearing the dreams of others, like Gideon, who was strengthened in faith by hearing two enemy soldiers sharing a dream. (Judges 6-8) God is still speaking, and He didn’t stop speaking at the completion of the Bible. What He speaks today will be in line with what He said in the past.  Jesus is the same yesterday as today (Hebrews 13:8.)

STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY

There is a plan by the kingdom of darkness to distract, disrupt, and destroy the future, both God’s prophetic plan and your personal destiny. Each person is said to have their own destiny which is simply put, your future according to God. Just as God revealed to Jeremiah that He foreknew him when he was still in his mother’s womb and that He preordained him to be a prophet (Jer. 1:5), God has a predetermined plan for each person.

JER. 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument],And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

With all the clutter and clamor and mixed voices speaking, our minds can become cloudy and our understanding fogged, this is why God will pierce the world of the natural and enter the realm of a dream or a vision so that secret strategies of the enemy can be exposed, and the hidden plans of God can be revealed. God is concerned about the details of our personal lives because circumstances affect our destiny!

IF DREAMS WERE IGNORED

  • no Isaac (Gen 20:3, 6-7)
  • no Israel (Gen 41:37-41, 45:5, 50:20)
  • no Solomon’s Kingdom (1 Kings 3:5-15)
  • no Jesus (Matt 1:20-24, 2:13,12)
    (scripture provided below)

GEN. 20:3

But God came to Abimelech in a dream during the night, and said, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken [as your wife], for she is another man’s wife.”

GEN. 20:6-7

Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this in the integrity of your heart, for it was I who kept you back and spared you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not give you an opportunity to touch her. So now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her [to him], know that you shall die, you and all who are yours (your household).”

GEN. 41:37-41

37 Now the plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all of his servants. 38 So Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this [a man equal to Joseph], in whom is the divine spirit [of God]?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since [your] God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and clear-headed and wise as you are. 40 You shall have charge over my house, and all my people shall [a]be governed according to your word and pay respect [to you with reverence, submission, and obedience]; only in [matters of] the throne will I be greater than you [in Egypt].” 41 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you [in charge] over all the land of Egypt.”

GEN. 45:5

Now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me ahead of you to save life and preserve our family.

GEN. 50:20

20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day].

1 KINGS 3:5-15

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, “Ask [Me] what I shall give you.”

MATT. 1:20-24

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the Child who has been [a]conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus (The Lord is salvation), for He will [b]save His people from their sins.” 22 All this happened in order to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the [c]prophet [Isaiah]: 23 “Behold, the [d]virgin shall be with child and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel”—which, when translated, means, “God with us.” 24 Then Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and he took Mary [to his home] as his wife

MATT. 2:12-13

12 And having been warned [by God] in a dream not to go back to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.13 Now when they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod intends to search for the Child in order to destroy Him.”

INTERPRETATION

Dreams and their correct interpretation bypass the hearts natural defense mechanisms (our logic) and allow the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and correction. Interpreting dreams brings Kingdom. If we lift our eyes and learn to interpret, then there is truly a white harvest field of souls before us (John 4:35) Everyone dreams; therefore, skills developed in dream interpretation create new harvest field opportunities. Dreams relate what is happening in the spirit realm to the natural person.  They can only be interpreted if the person is tuned into God. If we have a different interpretation that does not agree with the Bible, then you got a problem. Always be biblical centric. If you go for secular interpretations the dream is not going to get answered, there are things to be done for the kingdom that are not going to get done.  What you misdiagnose you mistreat. Dreams can only be interpreted if the person is tuned into God. There are times when certain parts of what you see are not completely understood at that moment.

BIBLICAL VS SECULAR

BIBLICALSECULAR
BIBLICAL – Can be originated externally (not from you).
God is omniscient. God created you. God knows your future and will help you by giving you information to help you for what he created you for. Not every dream is external, but those may be fewer than you think.
SECULAR – Is only originated internally. It is always you.  They are the result of your psyche or your body chemistry, i.e. the food you eat before bed.
ETERNAL – May have a ripple effect on generations if the dream is not interpreted correctly.  What you misdiagnose, you mistreat.TEMPORAL – Once you solve it, it’s done and over.
THEOSPECTIVE – God has a planINTROSPECTIVE – You look inside yourself for the answers. I focused or My knowledge. About “me” only.
LEVELS – There are sometimes levels or layers to the meaning of your dreams.  Examples include: literal meaning, allegorical meaning, mystical meaning.SINGULAR – The interpretation is always about psyche meaning.  There are no layers of uncovering.
