The Church is not a Business

Treating the church as a business has never been a biblical model. Businesses are all about profits, marketing, advertising, and being innovative. If anything, this is the total opposite of what the church is meant to be because the business mentality is man-centered and the church is God-centered. For business, customer is king. For church, Christ is King.

As Christians, we are citizens of the kingdom of heaven and local churches on earth are little embassies of that kingdom; we are citizens, soldiers even, of an otherworldly kingdom in hostile territory not business customers.

Businesses exist to pursue commercial or monetary profit. Churches should not pursue people solely for their money, that is fleecing the flock. There should not be an overlap of pastor and salesman. When Jesus walked the earth He rebuked those who failed to understand the difference. Christianity is not a product that is to be •sold• to a target demographic.

THE CHURCH IS NOT A BUSINESS, IT’S A BODY.
WHEN THAT BODY BECOMES A BUSINESS, IT’S A WHORE.

The church is not called to conform their services to the preferences of the people. Instead, the people are called to be conformed by the grace of God into the image of Christ. All people. All nations. Not some. Not a core demographic. All.

The church doesn’t offer services. The church serves
